Thanks to the U.S. Supreme Court ruling which decided that corporations have rights guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution just like people do, registered voters in Los Angeles, California may have the chance to elect a new kind of mayor in 2013: ?Farmscape, LLC.?
The mayor?s race next year is still anybody?s game, according to a daily newspaper for public finance, Bond Buyer. And since almost 58 percent of Angelenos do not have a preference yet, according to a poll released by Loyola Marymount University?and its Center for the Study of Los Angeles, it seems to be anybody?s opportunity to throw his, her or?its hat into the ring.
One of the urban company?s first hurdles seems to have been registering to vote earlier this April, which seems no small endeavor, according to the Farmscape Campaign Blog. Farmscape LLC, describes itself as ?the largest urban farming venture in Los Angeles.?
As for the Supreme Court, arguments in the 2009 case regarding campaign finance laws and allowing corporations to give more money to political candidates, opinions from a commentator who says corporations should can be seen at NPR ? Agree?and from one who says they shouldn?t at NPR ? Disagree.
